Formed in 2007 on the world-renowned Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre brings four partner institutions under one roof — so a laboratory discovery can travel all the way to a treatment offered to patients, without ever leaving Cambridge.

The Department of Oncology within the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge and is at the forefront of oncology research and education with a strong focus on translating basic scientific findings into clinical applications for treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a family of hospitals in comprising Addenbrooke's and the Rosie. Addenbrooke's is a teaching and research hospital and is a designated academic health science centre

The CCTU was established in 2011 to lead studies that translate the extensive scientific advances provided by Cambridge Science into clinical application. CCTU is a fully registered CTU and is hosted at CUH as part of the Cambridge BRC. The CCTC's Cancer Theme is the largest theme within CCTU

The CRUK Cambridge Centre is the collaboration of scientists and clinicians from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Cambridge, independent research institutes, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the Cambridge area

When a trial is open, our Clinical Operations team are the faces you'll meet. Research nurses see you through every visit on your schedule of assessments, and data managers make sure each result is recorded safely — calm, unhurried, and always on your side.

• Research nurses carry out your observations, examinations and bloods — and explain every step along the way.
• Data managers record your results into the trial's forms, increasingly drawn straight from your hospital record in EPIC.
• Every visit follows the protocol and good clinical practice — kind, safe and excellent, the values we share with CUH.

Where a cancer
trial begins

Long before anyone is approached to take part, our Cancer Theme turns a clinician's idea into a running study. We secure the funding, write the protocol with our statisticians, build the database that captures every result, and open sites across the UK — the largest theme within the CCTU.

• Statisticians, data specialists and trial coordinators design the study, build its ICH-GCP database and open sites across the UK.
• Statisticians shape the science — endpoints, sample size and the analysis plan the trial's conclusions rest on.
• Data specialists & programmers turn the protocol into a validated EDC database, built to ICH-GCP from the first draft.
• Coordinators & monitors open and oversee each study across one or many UK sites, from concept to a secure archive.
